Quin Murphy
Every parents worst nightmare…losing a child. I can’t begin to imagine what this feels like. In all my years of working in the world of finance, I have always been a champion of: learning lessons the hard way, never giving up, turning mistakes into learning experiences and always making the most of any situation, no matter how bad it gets. But when I think about losing my daughter, it makes me think that I too would die. I hope I wouldn’t give up if it happened, but it sure feels like I would… Not Brian Murphy.
You see, Brian is a teacher for the past 17 years, born and raised here in San Diego. He was in the perfect position to avoid a medical disaster for himself or his family. They had insurance! They had regular access to medical professionals! Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough. His son, Quin Murphy, died at the age of 16, in his fathers arms, in a hospital bed, from an illness that was easily treatable if properly diagnosed. Read the full story here.
You would expect rage from this man. You would expect anger and he’s fully entitled to it. All he wanted was an explanation. All he ever asked for was an apology. He has yet to receive it. Instead of being negative and letting HATE take over his mind, thoughts and actions, Brian created the Quin Murphy Foundation. The Foundation gives scholarships in Quin’s name so he can live-on and continue to impact people’s lives beyond his years on this Earth.
Hat’s off to YOU, Mr. Murphy, for having the composure, foresight, and compassion to take this horribly negative event in your life and make it a positive thing for humanity and for the community. Congratulations to you for being smarter than everyone else. You have my full support, admiration and sympathy. Your story, Quin’s story, will always be with me.
